Court Advocacy: Advocates are available to work
with a victim/survivor in the criminal justice system every afternoon that
court is in session. The court advocates offer support and advocacy to
victims during criminal proceedings, assistance in obtaining protection
orders, filing for victim's compensation claims, explaining the criminal
justice process, assisting during criminal trials and providing general
support. This service began in 1997.
Support Groups: AH sponsors three support
groups per week for adult, female survivors - two offered in English and the
other in Spanish. These groups offer support, encourage individuation by the
participants, explain the power and control dynamics of domestic violence,
and empower the participants to take charge of their own lives. This service
began in 1986 with the Spanish groups added in 2000. In 2008, AH expanded
its support/therapy group services to include children who have witnessed or
experienced family violence. AH now offers 3 additional support groups for
children and teens.
Multi-Cultural Outreach to Underserved Communities:
To improve accessibility of AH services to the underserved
communities, the organization has a paid staff member who is bilingual and
bicultural. She provides education, translation, assistance with
documentation, advocacy, information and referrals and crisis intervention.
This service began in 1997 serving the Latino/Hispanic community and
expanded in 2005 and again in 2008 to increase services to all the
underserved communities.
Bridges of Hope Legal Project: During 2008 AH
expanded its legal project and now employs an attorney and a paralegal to
provide legal representation in District and Tribal court to survivors in
Dissolution of Marriage and Parental Rights and Responsibilities cases. This
project began in 1996.
Child Advocacy and Education: AH expanded its
services during 2008 with the addition of a Child advocacy Director to
provide child advocacy, support groups and case management to children and
teens who have witnessed or experienced family violence and/or dating
violence. The Child Advocacy Director also provides case management to the
families of these children with the goal of establishing stability and
safety.
Community Education: AH facilitates general
educational presentations within the community, with specific prevention
curriculums to Middle School through College aged youth. AH also provides
Workplace Violence Presentations to employers.
